Mother
Died suddenly
Bereft beyond belief
I mourn her untimely passing
Tears shed
Still night
Stars beguile me with their beauty
My heartfelt loss immense
Grief engulfs me
Silence.

This is for d’Verse poetics. It is a reverse cinquain? My song choice was Tom Paxton. “The last thing on my mind”.
It’s a lesson too late for the learning
Made of sand, made of sand
It will soon be the anniversary, she passed away in 2008, suddenly without saying goodbye, she was 64, and I was on the other side of the world and didn’t even get home for the funeral. We all feel it still. She was my mum.

Hues of Hankinson 
This has to be a moment for all to remember… In a few weeks we are coming to my father’s 100’s birthday. It would have been wonderful to have him still with us.

My mother died suddenly too, at 69, before the hospital had even got around to giving her a biopsy. I was in France, but she held on, even though she was in a coma, until I got there. Then she let go.

I loved the simplicity of this, taking in the grief and silence. Tom Paxton is someone I have listened to a great deal.

I too loved the simplicity in this poem. You and Kim both wrote about your mothers. I lost my mother this past June. It is something that never leaves you.

I am so so sorry for you loss, Alison. Every day my mom is with me I can’t imagine life without her. It is a true testament to the strength of a mother/daughter relationship. My heart goes out to you. Thank you for sharing this powerful piece.

Poignant and powerful. Whilst you were not there physically I believe our presence can be felt in other ways. She knew you were there in that sense.
